Michael Newcomb, as one of Virginia's first Peer Support Specialists since 2007, we have been pioneers in advancing both civilian and military peer support services. WHAT'S CPRS STAND FOR?

A CPRS stands for Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (sometimes referred to as a ‘Peer Navigator’ or ‘Peer Coach’).

WHAT IS A CPRS?

A CPRS is a person with lived experience from traumatic injury, physical and/or mental health challenges, and/or substance use disorder who has received specialized training to work with their Peers.

WHAT DO THEY DO?

Their role is to meet people ‘where they are’ and walk alongside an individual, providing hope, problem-solving skills, coping skills, identify barriers to goals, and provide education on wellness, resiliency, and recovery -- a strengths-based way.
